Are you for the North or the South?

​

 

In Sword of Freedom, you will be taking a walk back in time.  You will study the American Civil War.  You will read classic literature pertaining to the era and biographies of great Civil War leaders, then come together to discuss what you have read.  You will write papers on assigned themes, which inspire you to ponder freedom.  You will research and write about a Civil War hero of your choice.  You will give oral presentations and memorize the Gettysburg Address.

  • Students will have the opportunity of moving past black and white thinking and apply founding documetns to life.

 

  • Students learn self governance by recognizing the power of personal freedom.

 

  • Time Requirement 10-15 hours per week.

Hero Project

In the Hero Project, you will again learn from the past, through studying heroes of the World Wars.  You will learn how the previous hero generation saved the world from two devastating military machines.  In the process of compiling your hero report, you will learn from the experts, you will learn from people who lived through it.  You will have the option of using many different methods to create you Hero report.  You will learn about the World Wars through lectures, simulations, and reading and discussing biographies from this period.  You will keep a personal journal and will be given journal prompts to help you make thoughtful journal entries that reflect your increasing knowledge of heroes.
